| Molecular Database Curation and Development: A postbac training position is currently available in the Research Resources Branch (RRB) of the National Institute on Aging (NIA). The position is located in the laboratory of Kevin Becker, Ph.D., whose research focuses on the computational analysis of common disease. Current studies involve database development of general and disease-specific databases of multiplex data involved in common genetic disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, autoimmune disorders, autism, Tourette syndrome, and human and mouse aging, among others. This offers the opportunity to work closely with laboratory investigators performing large-scale gene expression analysis and related genetic studies. | |
| Candidates should have or be close to obtaining a degree in computational biology, computer science, molecular biology, or a closely related field. Applicants must possess good communication skills and be fluent in both spoken and written English. This position involves assisting with genomic database development and data curation of multiple databases. The ability to learn how to use new software and quickly become expert in its use, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work semi-independently are required. | |
| The NIA Intramural Research Program is on the Baltimore Bayview campus and offers a wide array of training opportunities for scientists early in their career. The successful candidate will have access to NIA's established bioinformatics infrastructure, interactions with scientists at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, as well as resources made available through NIH's Center for Information Technology (CIT) and the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). | |
| Interested applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a detailed letter of interest, and the names of three potential referees. | |
