2006 Summer Program
"Barbara A. Hughes, Award of Excellence"
August 1, 2006, Gerontology Research Center, Baltimore, Maryland
The "Barbara A. Hughes Award of Excellence" research competition was established to recognize Dr. Hughes' mentorship of young scientists and her role for pioneering NIA's first poster session in 1993. The competition, sponsored by NIA's Office of the Scientific Director, was designed to recognize the scientific achievements of our summer students. A team of judges reviewed the posters and assigned scores based on a given set of criteria. Three winners were chosen based on their overall performance. Abstracts of the posters, with the best judges' scores, are available below:
Hakeenah F. Brown, MARC Program. Poster Title: Investigation of the Relationship between Wnt5a and Claudin-1
Jeanne K. Seeberger, Summer IRTA. Poster Title: The Effects of Nutrient Ratio on Lifespan and Reproduction in Drosophila Melanogaster
Lauren Wilson, Summer IRTA. Poster Title: Genetic Analysis of a New Component of the FA Core Complex, Hip, in Chicken DT40 Cells
