2007 Summer Program
"Barbara A. Hughes, Award of Excellence"

The "Barbara A. Hughes Award of Excellence" research competition was established to recognize Dr. Hughes' mentorship of young scientists and her role for pioneering NIA's first poster session in 1993. The competition, sponsored by NIA's Office of the Scientific Director, was designed to recognize the scientific achievements of our summer students. A team of judges reviewed the posters and assigned scores based on a given set of criteria. Four winners were chosen based on their overall performance. The winners of the 2007 research competition:
Brett Wanamaker (Laboratory of Experimental Gerontology), Sophomore, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Poster Title: Body Composition and Inflammation - [Abstract]
Claire Chang (Brain Physiology and Metabolism Section), Sophomore, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
Poster Title: Chronic NMDA Administration Increases Neuroinflammatory Markers in Rat Frontal Cortex - [Abstract]
Jack Wang (Laboratory of Genetics), Senior, Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science, Denton.
Poster Title: Pattern Analysis of Melanoma Tissue Sections Using WND-CHARM - [Abstract]
