Used data from 3 normal samples to examine links between personality disorder scales and measures of the 5-factor model of personality (J. M. Digman; see PA, Vol 77:17097). In Study 1, self-reports, spouse ratings, and peer ratings on the NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI), a measure of the 5 personality factors, were correlated with Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) personality disorder scales (L. C. Morey et al; see PA, Vol 72:27031) in 297 adults (aged 19-90 yrs). In Study 2, self-reports on the NEO-PI were correlated with Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI--I) scales in 207 adults (aged 27-90 yrs); self-reports on the MCMI--II were examined in 62 undergraduates. Results replicated those of J. S. Wiggins and A. L. Pincus (see PA, Vol 77:12339), suggesting that the 5-factor model encompasses dimensions of both normal and abnormal personality.
