Positions Available in the Laboratory of Neurosciences
Electrophysiology Facility
Postdoctoral positions in synaptic plasticity and aging related neurological disorder are available immediately in the Laboratory of Neurosciences (LNS) (Chief, Dr. Mark Mattson), National Institute on Aging, to investigate the mechanisms underlying the memory impairment in aging. The NIA Gerontology Research Center is located on the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center campus in Baltimore, Maryland. The overall mission of the LNS is to understand, at the molecular and cellular levels, the events that occur in the nervous system during aging and the mechanisms responsible for aging of the nervous system and age-related neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's diseases and stroke. A broad array of experimental models and cutting-edge genetic, molecular and biochemical technologies are being applied to accomplish this goal. For the details of our research and techniques, please refer to PNAS. 102, 17213-17218 (2005), PNAS. 101, 9458-9462 (2004) and Nat. Neurosci. 5, 723-724 (2002). Experience in brain slices or patch-clamp is preferred. A Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related field is required. Salary is competitive and within NIH guidelines.

Postdoc positions are available to study the genetics of nervous system aging using C. elegans.  Research will focus on studying how insulin-like signaling controls lifespan from the nervous system.  Other projects also include integrating genetic, cell biological and bioinformatic approaches to identify new genes required for successful nervous system aging.  To apply, send CV, bibliography and summary of research interests together with names/addresses of three references to:
